Music Recital by the
Bauer Kids (some)
|
|
Alex, Heidi and Marieke are giving a piano and cello recital (with
friends) at Wells Music Store, 685 S. Broadway, Denver on Saturday 22nd
March. The performance will be at 4pm and last an hour or so. They would
love support from fellow homeschoolers who would enjoy hearing some fine
playing from the classical repertoire (Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky,
Beethoven, Chopin.....). Naomi will also be back with us for Spring
Break, for those who would like to see her again. Call Lucy Bauer
(303-816-9112) for time and more details.

Student Matinees

The Repertory Series- Friday March 14th 11 a.m.
One. Tu-tu. Three. Our repertory series is three-times as
spectacular as a single ballet. Three different works. One breathtaking
adventure. Colorado Ballet is extremely proud to present THE REPERTORY
SERIES, a collection of 3 innovative, contemporary works from leading
choreographers, featuring The Leaves Are Fading by Antony Tudor, …smile
with my heart by Lar Lubovitch, with Richard Rodgers music, including
“My Funny Valentine”, and a World Premiere by Complexions Contemporary
Ballet Artistic Director Dwight Rhoden. These productions are new to
Colorado Ballet and Denver, so don’t miss this opportunity to catch some
of the most refreshing dance around!
These performances are an excellent, inexpensive way to introduce kids
(and adults!) to the Arts at a reasonable time of day. If you want to go
to either or both matinees as part of a MAHS 'group' call me asap (this
week)and I'll order us a block of tickets, otherwise you can do it
independently if you download
the reservation form and email to
education@coloradoballet.org or fax to 303-861-7174. Tickets can
sell out so don't procrastinate too long if you wish to attend!
Performances are at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Performing
Arts Complex downtown Denver.

Stones In His Pockets
By Marie Jones
Directed by Wade P. Wood
Feb. 22 - Mar. 29, 2008
Jake and Charlie are thirty-somethings who meet when working as extras
on a big American movie being shot in Ireland. Charlie's video shop in
Ballycastle has gone bankrupt and Jake has returned to Kerry after a
futile few years in the US. The movie is a wonderful break from worrying
about their futures, until the harsh realities of rural life break
through.
Show times
are 7:30pm Friday and Saturday and 2pm Sundays. Price: $22.

Man of La Mancha
Man of La Mancha
first played at the
Goodspeed
Opera House in
Connecticut in
1964.
Rex Harrison was
to be the original star of this production, but the musical demands of
the role were heavy for him. After 21 previews, the musical opened at
the ANTA Washington Square Theatre in
Greenwich Village
on
November 22,
1965, then moved
to Broadway at the
Martin Beck Theatre
on March 20, 1968, then to the Eden Theatre on March 3, 1971, and
finally to the
Mark Hellinger Theatre
on May 26, 1971 for its last month, a total original New York run of
2,329 performances.
Richard Kiley won
a
Tony Award for
his performance as Cervantes/Quixote in the original production, and it
made Kiley a bona fide Broadway star.[1]
The original cast also included Irving Jacobson (Sancho),
Ray Middleton
(Innkeeper),
Robert Rounseville
(The Padre), and
Joan Diener (Aldonza).
John Cullum,
José Ferrer,
Hal Holbrook, and
Lloyd Bridges
also played the roles during the run of the production. The musical was
performed on a single set that suggested a dungeon. All changes in
location were created by alterations in the lighting, by the use of
props supposedly lying around the floor of the dungeon, and by reliance
on the audience's imagination. More recent productions, however, have
added more scenery.
Performances February 15 – March 2, 2008. Price
$18.
